History

To the great Guru Nanak who was an apostle of peace, truth and universal brotherhood, there could not be a better tribute on his 500 birth-day than the decision to build a "State of the Art" Hospital & Research Centre in the Metropolis of Bombay. The ailing society and suffering mankind, which Guru Nanak loved the most, sorely need such facilities.

The driving force behind this noble venture are the disciples of the great Guru spearheaded by the Shree Singh Sabha, Bombay.

n a city, where the rapidly expanding population has reached the 10 million mark, Medical facilities are woefully inadequate both in terms of quantity and quality. The crying need of the hour is the setting-up of Medical centers that combines excellence in treatment with a philanthropic and humanitarian approach so that they are accessible to people from all walks of life.

To fulfil the dream, Guru Nanak Quin Centenary Memorial Hospital Trust was formed. The Trust has been progressively developing the Guru Nanak Medical Centre, Bandra (East), Mumbai. The Futuristic expansion plan visualise establishment of a Heart and Neuro Sciences Centre and Medical College. In addition two free dispensaries, one each at Dadar and Bandra in Mumbai and a Hospital at Nanded are being managed by the Trust

Chief Medical Officer's Message

Dr.R.S.Gulati,
CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

The Guru Nanak Hospital & Research Centre was started by visionary philanthropists of the Sikh Community to serve the Society at large on the same philosophy propogated by Guru Nanak Devji namely, "Service to Humanity is Service to God". This philosophy is as old as mankind. This philosophy saw the birth of a number of "Not-for-profit" hospitals not only in India but many parts of the world including the US and Europe.

Healthcare has seen tremendous progress over the past few years; not only in terms of infrastructure, technology and super-specialization but also in terms of the "economics". Healthcare has not remained only 'charitable' but also developed into a "business". In fact, it is one of the fastest growing sectors in terms of percentage of GDPs of countries but also as private enterprise. This has seen the growth of 'for-profit' corporate hospitals even in the "developing" countries. "Market forces" dictate the direction of this industry.

The 'Consumer', too, has become aware of his rights and demands the very best in terms of quality, technology, skills of medical specialists, safety and supportive services. And all this at affordable costs!! And with no waiting periods and shorter hospital stays!!!

The 'Not-for-profit' hospitals have, therefore, to gear themselves to compete with 'for-profit' hospitals, without dilution of their noble objectives.

We, at Guru Nanak Hospital & Research Centre, have geared ourselves for precisely this very situation. We have now embarked on achieving the healthcare vision of 'enhancing quality, safety and affordability' with an integrated approach, strengthening skill sets and competencies to provide quality healthcare.

Our "compass" is now pointed towards "Total Patient Satisfaction"

I appeal to all stakeholders of the health care industry to give us an opportunity so that they can "experience customer delight". The stakeholders could be patients from Mumbai, India or even across the globe. They could be Healthcare Insurance Companies, Third Party Administrators, Equipment Suppliers, Pharmaceuticals, General Practitioners, Medical Consultants, Corporate Clients, Government Agencies, NGOs, etc.

Come, let us together walk down the path of "Good Health".

DR. R. S. GULATI,
CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER
